My daughter came home from school so excited one day because she had the opportunity to dress up the following week in her 4th grade class for career day.
It was at that moment that I realized that my entrepreneurial ventures had a much bigger impact on my family than just financial. I was setting an example for my children and inspiring others around me.
When we put social impact at the center of our business pursuits it not only creates an influence and change in our local community, but we have the chance to create innovative approaches in our industry. And we have the opportunity to influence our own business and our families.
Building a business that creates a meaningful impact is not only a noble endeavor but also a strategic choice that can yield long term benefits. Building a business with a bigger goal in mind extends your impact far beyond financial success. You make an impact in your community, your family and create a new standard in your industry.
Making a positive impact in the community is the cornerstone of responsible entrepreneurship. A business has the potential to be a force for good contributing to the well-being of a local community in various ways. This could involve job opportunities, supporting local initiatives or even implementing new practices that change the community. By actively participating in community development, a business can forge strong connections with residents. A great reputation of the business is the standard, and the community members are put first. This shared sense of responsibility fosters great relationships alongside economic development.
The influence within your industry can have long lasting effects. A socially responsible business can lead by example, influencing others for positive change. The impact extends well beyond the bottom line, encouraging competitors and collaborators alike to adopt new ways of doing business. Perhaps a more ethical or sustainable practice. By championing new and innovative business practices, a company becomes a catalyst for industry-wide improvements and change. Contributing to a better business ecosystem with support and innovation at the center of business actions.
The impact of business on the family cannot be underestimated. Often entrepreneurs are pulled in so many directions that they lose precious time with their family. By putting the social impact first in your business pursuits, you have the opportunity to create a legacy that extends beyond financial success. You instill strong core values, a strong work ethic and a commitment to your community within your family structure. Your business involvement will be tied to this shared purpose for generations to come.
“A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives”
Jackie Robinson
To begin building a business that creates a social impact, it is important to reinvestigate your mission and vision. Involving everyone in the business keeps everyone on the same page and moving toward creating an innovative and inclusive culture. A business that is connected to larger societal issues is more inviting, more holistic and creates an inviting business culture
